Summer Contest

To celebrate Eucalyptus Lit's one-year anniversary, we will be holding our first ever summer contest for poetry and prose! Our guest judges this year are Eric Yip and Angie Sijun Lou.

Contest Guidelines

*** Please note that contest submission guidelines differ from our regular submissions.

​

Eucalyptus Lit's summer contest will be open from June 29th to August 3rd, 11:59 PM (PST). 

Submissions received outside our contest window will not be considered.

​

Our editor team will select a shortlist of 3-6 writers for each category, from which our judges will name a winner and a runner-up. The winner will receive a prize of $75, and the runner-up will receive $25. All shortlisted writers will be guaranteed publication in Eucalyptus LitYou may also submit the same piece(s) to both our contest and general submissions. All pieces submitted to the contest will be considered for publication, even if not shortlisted.

Submissions are free, and you may submit once to both categories (poetry and/or prose). Please submit through our submission form: https://forms.gle/YbJgNbxHv1zRv8uN9

Remove all identifying information in your file attachment and include a cover letter and a short third-person bio (<75 words). ​

  • For poetry, please send up to three previously unpublished pieces in a pdf or word document, starting each poem on a new page. We will judge the poems separately, and, if you are shortlisted, we will include only one in the shortlist.

  • For prose, send one previously unpublished piece with a word count of less than 3,500 words.

 

If you cannot access the form for any reason, you may email your submission to us at submissions.eucalyptus.lit@gmail.com. Include the words "CONTEST SUBMISSION" in your email title, a cover letter, and a personal bio with less than 75 words.


For a donation of $5 to our GoFundMe, you may submit up to three extra poems or one extra prose piece. If you choose to do so, please make sure to use your full name, as well as note your donation in our form or on email.

Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but please make note of that in the form and withdraw your piece(s) if accepted elsewhere. 

​

As always, please make sure your work does not contain any hateful or discriminatory language. Work created using the aid of artificial intelligence will also not be considered.

Eric Yip

Poetry Judge

ERIC YIP is a poet from Hong Kong. He won the 2021 National Poetry Competition in the UK and was shortlisted for the 2023 Forward Prize for Best Single Poem. His poems have appeared in Best New Poets, The Guardian, Oxford Poetry, and The Poetry Review. His debut pamphlet, Exposure, was published by ignitionpress in 2024.

Angie Sijun Lou

Prose Judge

ANGIE SIJUN LOU is a writer living in Oakland. Her stories have appeared in ZYZZYVA, BOMB, FENCE, Best Small Fictions, and elsewhere. She is a Kundiman Fellow and Ph.D. Candidate in Creative Writing at UC Santa Cruz.
